Product info

Intended use

RIDA®STAMP S. aureus is a ready-to-use agar for the detection of Staphylococcus aureus on surfaces. The RIDA®STAMP plates consist of a special 10 cm2 petri dish containing organism specific agar which is protruding above the surface of the plate in order to allow direct contact with the selected flat surface or solid food sample.

General Information

Regular sampling on cleaned and sanitised surfaces will lead to a complete quantitative hygiene monitoring process. Repeated controls will play a part in contributing to good workplace hygiene according to the concept of HACCP and support GMP guidelines.

Staphylococcus aureus is a ball shaped bacterium which can be observed as a grape-like clustered organism under the microscope. Cells are sized between 0.8 and 1.2 ┬Ám, -positive and non-motile. S. aureus is a natural bacterium of humans which lives on skin and upper airways and doesnÔÇÖt cause diseases in general. In case of infection with pathogenic strains or in immunodeficient people, S. aureus is able to cause skin infections and abscesses but also life threating diseases such as pneumonia, meningitis, endocarditis, or toxic shock syndrome (TSS).

Contamination of food stuffs with S. aureus is almost always caused by humans (hands, sneezing, coughing). Therefore, it gets onto surfaces in the production environment as well as onto foods. During the process of controlling surfaces on their hygienic status the possible presence of S. aureus should always be taken into account.

On RIDA┬«STAMP S. aureus members of this species will form bright blue colonies which can be easily identified after an incubation time of 22 – 24 h at 36 ┬░C.
