Intended use

RIDA®STAMP ECC is a ready-to-use agar for detection of E. coli and other coliform bacteria on surfaces. The RIDA®STAMP plates consist of a special 10 cm2 petri dish containing organism specific agar which is protruding above the surface of the plate in order to allow direct contact with the selected flat surface or solid food sample.

General Information

Regular sampling on cleaned and sanitised surfaces will lead to a complete quantitative hygiene monitoring process. Repeated controls will play a part in contributing to good workplace hygiene according to the concepts of HACCP and support GMP guidelines.

The term ÔÇťcoliform bacteriaÔÇŁ doesnÔÇÖt describe a taxonomical group beyond the eubacteria. It actually is more a summary of some genera from the family of enterobacteria. Their common biochemical characteristics are a positive lactose reaction as well as a negative oxidase reaction.

Coliform bacteria are considered to be indicators for faecal contaminations. E. coli is the best known member of the group of coliforms and considered as an indicator for the presence of pathogenic organisms (e.g. Salmonella).

The agar of RIDA®STAMP ECC contains two chromogenic enzyme substrates: Magenta-GAL and X-GLUC. Thus, coliforms show a red violet colouration of their colonies while colonies of E. coli will appear in blue. By addition of all red violet and blue colony counts, the total number of coliform bacteria grown on the nutrient can be obtained.
